FAQ Frequently asked questions
Here you will find answers to your questions
You can join BENU REUSE if you live in Luxembourg or work for a company, organization or institution based in Luxembourg. We transport the used objects and materials to and from any location within Luxembourg.
Do you have things that you no longer need? Are you looking for an object or certain materials? Regardless of whether they are new or used, things can be conveyed if they are still in good condition, attractive and clean. Since we do not carry out any repairs or improvements at BENU REUSE, we usually only sell items that are functional, i.e. do not need to be repaired and can be used directly by the customer. Items that do not need to be repaired will only be brokered if the customer (s): Searches for them expressly via a search advertisement. For example, scratched CDs could be passed on to a customer if he / she needs them for a handicraft project.
We take over the transport from the provider (s) to the buyer (s). Therefore, the objects should be as big and heavy as possible that they still fit in the BENU REUSE transporter and can be loaded by two people from our team. Larger objects, such as furniture, can be disassembled and transported. You can find our recommendations for preparation for the transport of dismantled objects here> FAQ "What should be considered when transporting dismantled objects?"
If you are looking for a single, small item or would like to donate it, you should consider whether it makes sense to mediate and pass it on through BENU REUSE. We try to coordinate the necessary transport routes for the various deliveries in the best possible way. Nevertheless, the cost of transporting a small individual item can be disproportionately large. For example, with a single candlestick, it might make more sense to hand it over to a second-hand shop near you.
We set stricter standards for mediation in various categories, entirely in line with sustainability. For example, building materials contaminated with pollutants should no longer be used, but should be disposed of properly. In the case of a used electrical device, it can also depend on the age and the energy efficiency of a model whether it still makes sense to continue using it.
You can find everything you need to know about this under the additional information. Here we also explain why certain items are excluded and what you should pay attention to when continuing to use them.
Various things are not conveyed through BENU REUSE. These include clothes, textiles, furs, shoes and food. You can find more details about this here
Since we do not carry out any repairs or improvements at BENU REUSE, we generally do not provide any items that are in need of repair and cannot be used directly by the customer. Items in need of repair will only be brokered if the buyer (s) is expressly looking for them via a search advertisement.
For some items, we generally advise against further use due to environmental pollution, e.g. old railway sleepers. You can find out which things are in detail in the additional information. Here we also explain why certain subjects are not taught. We also give tips on what to do with these things and point out addresses that you can contact instead.
If your item is not conveyed through BENU REUSE, then have a look at REUSE Service. Here you will find many organizations, initiatives and companies that accept, pass on, repair or broker used items
When you collect the items, our BENU REUSE team will assess the condition of the items on offer. In the event of obvious defects, such as rusted devices or damaged furniture, or if the general BENU REUSE criteria are not respected, the BENU REUSE team cannot take your items with them.
Since the objects mediated are used goods, despite this inspection we can not guarantee that they are free from defects, functional, free from harmful substances and completeness. We cannot guarantee the correctness of the information on the original purpose or the previous treatment of the conveyed items.
Especially with electrical devices such as household appliances or lamps, we recommend that you have them checked before you use them for the first time. In certain cases, the analysis of a material with regard to pollutants can also be useful, e.g. if used building materials or components are to be used in the interior. If you have any uncertainties, you should seek professional advice.
In principle, you should only continue to use used objects and materials in accordance with their original purpose. You should be aware that use that does not correspond to its intended purpose can have undesirable and even harmful consequences. For example, you should only use wooden parts that were previously used outdoors in the future. Outdoor wood is often treated with paints, glazes or wood preservatives that are not suitable for indoor use. Such agents could cause harmful vapors in the house.
In order for you, as the customer, to: obtain the most precise information possible about your item, the provider (s) is asked when submitting the donation to provide detailed information, e.g. on the age and condition or on the previous use and treatment of materials. You can find the relevant information under the respective donation description.
Especially in the case of used electrical devices, such as household appliances or lamps, we recommend that you have a professional check carried out before using it for the first time. In certain cases, it can also be useful to analyze a material with regard to pollutants, e.g. if used building materials or components are to be used indoors. In general, you should seek professional advice if you are unsure.
