FAQ Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to your questions

You can join BENU REUSE if you live in Luxembourg or work for a company, organization or institution based in Luxembourg. We transport the used objects and materials to and from any location within Luxembourg.

You have things that you no longer need? Are you looking for an object or certain materials? It doesn't matter if it's new or used - things can be passed on if they are still in good condition, nice to look at and clean. Since BENU REUSE does not carry out any repairs or touch-ups, BENU REUSE usually only passes on items that are in working order. This means that they should not be in need of any repair service, and should be ready for immediate use. Items in need of repair will only be passed on if the receiver is explicitly looking for them via a wanted ad; scratched CDs could be passed on if the receiver needs them for a craft project, for instance.

We take care of the transport from donor to receiver. Therefore, the items should fit into the  BENU REUSE van and not be heavier than two people from our team can load. Larger items, such as furniture, can be transported in a disassembled state. Our recommendations for preparing the transport of disassembled items can be found here.

If you are looking for or would like to offer a single, small item, you should consider whether it makes sense for BENU REUSE to arrange and pass it on. We try to coordinate the necessary transport routes of the various deliveries as best as possible. Nevertheless, the transport effort that is necessary for a small, single item can be disproportionately large. In the case of a single candlestick, for example, it might make more sense to drop it off at a second-hand shop near you.

In various categories, we set even stricter standards - all in the spirit of sustainability. Building materials that are contaminated with harmful substances, for instance, should not be reused, but disposed of properly. In case of a used electrical appliance, it may also depend on the age and energy efficiency of a model whether its further use is still advisable.
You can find everything you need to know about this under additional information. Here, we also explain why certain items are excluded from being passed on and what you should look out for when continuing to use them.

Some items are not available through BENU REUSE - including clothes, textiles, furs, shoes and food. You can find more details here.

As we do not repair or improve items at BENU REUSE, we do not usually pass on items that are in need of repair and are unfit for immediate use. Items that are in need of repair will only be passed on if the receiver is specifically looking for them in a wanted ad.

As for some items, further use is generally not recommended due to the potential environmental pollution, e.g. in the case of old railway sleepers. You can find out more information on this in the additional information. Here, we also explain why certain items are not to be passed on. Moreover, we offer advice on what you should do with these things and share some useful addresses with you.

If your item won't be passed on through BENU REUSE, then take a look at REUSE Service. Here, you will find many organisations, initiatives and businesses that accept, pass on or repair used objects.

Upon pick-up, our BENU REUSE team will inspect the condition of the item. In case of obvious defects (e.g. rusted equipment), damage or disregard of the general BENU REUSE criteria, the BENU REUSE team cannot collect your item.

Despite this inspection, we cannot assume any responsibility for the object being free of defects, functional, free of pollutants or complete - given that the items we pass on are second-hand goods. We also can't assume any responsibility with regard to the correctness of any information on their original intended use or any previous treatment of the passed on item. For this reason, items that are passed on via BENU REUSE go without any guarantee

Especially in case of any used electronic equipment, such as household appliances or lamps, we recommend you to have them checked professionally before using the item for the first time. In certain cases, it may also be useful to have a material analysed for harmful substances, e.g. if used building materials or components are to be used indoors. In general, you should seek professional advice if you are unsure.

In principle, you should only reuse used objects and materials in accordance with their original purpose. You should be aware that using an object in a way which does not correspond to its originally intended purpose could have undesirable and even harmful consequences. Wooden parts that have been used outdoors should, for instance, not be reused indoord. Outdoor wood is often treated with paints, stains or wood preservatives that are not suitable for indoor use, where such items could be harmful to health.

In order for you as a receiver to obtain the most accurate information possible about your object, the donor will be asked to provide detailed information upon submitting the offer (e.g. on the age, condition, previous use and treatment of the object). You will find all relevant information under the respective offer's description.

You have a used item that you no longer need and want to pass on? Select the corresponding category under the function "I DONATE". Here you can see which items are currently being searched for in this category. Maybe there is already a wanted ad that matches your item? You can offer your item here. You can also post your offer directly by clicking on the button "I am publishing a donation".

In order to be able to successfully pass on your object, we need some information from you:

Language
The website can be visited in four languages - Luxembourgish, German, French and English. All keywords, including the categories (e.g. furniture, building materials) and subcategories (e.g. windows, living room) are available in these four languages on our website. Please choose one of these languages to describe your offer. If possible, avoid spelling mistakes and complicated expressions to make it easier for searchers to find your ad.

Category
Please select the category and a subcategory in which you would like to offer your item. Here you will also find a list of criteria that your item must fulfil in order to be offered. Please check if your item can be passed on.

Title
Under the title, please give us a short, precise description of your item. A well formulated title makes it easier to find the item using the search function. It is helpful to use a simple but concrete description, such as "wardrobe made of solid wood", instead of "cupboard".

Photos
Photos complement your description and draw attention to your donation. One photo should show your item in its entirety. Additional photos can be used to illustrate details or different views. Make sure the photos are of good quality - the item offered should be clearly recognisable. Experience has shown that interested parties prefer to look at offers with attractive photos.

Details
Please provide a brief description of your item. Depending on the category you have chosen, you will also be asked for various details, such as number, dimensions, material, age and previous use and treatment of your item. Some of these details are obligatory, as they are indispensable for a mediation and represent important information for the receiver. You are also welcome to provide additional details that you feel are important for a precise description. The more precisely you describe your item, the better your chances of finding a receiver. Try to formulate your description as simply and comprehensibly as possible.

Pick-up address
Please make sure that the address where you want us to collect your item is correct and complete. If there is anything special about the address, such as a narrow driveway, please let us know. Don't worry - neither your address, nor your name will be passed on to the receiver or third parties.

Transport information
Please indicate if your item needs to be disassembled for transport. If you would like BENU REUSE to dismantle your item, please select the appropriate option. We will charge you 60 € per working hour with 2 persons. Of course, you can also take care of the dismantling yourself and save these costs. Important information on preparing for transport can be found here.

Are you looking for a specific item? Select the corresponding category under the "I'M LOOKING FOR"-function. Here, you can see which items are currently being offered in this category. You can also search for keywords by entering them in the "Direct search" (magnifying glass). Once you have found your desired item, you can order it directly online.

Is your desired item not available? Then you can publish a wanted ad on BENU REUSE. Create your wanted ad by clicking on the button "I'm publishing a search ad". As soon as a donor contacts us, we will inform you.

In order for your search ad to be successful, we need various information from you:

Do you need the item you are looking for more than once? Are you looking for it regularly or over a longer period of time? Please give us more detailed information so that we can present your search query on BENU REUSE for a sufficiently long time.

Photos
If you have photos or drawings of an item that matches or resembles your wanted item, you can attach them to your search ad. These can be pictures of a whole object, details or different views. Make sure the photos are of good quality; the item you are looking for should be clearly recognisable.

Details
Describe the item you are looking for as precisely as possible. Depending on the category you have selected, you will also be asked for various details, such as the desired dimensions, colours, materials and the intended use of the item you are looking for. The more precisely you describe what is important to you, the better your chances of finding your desired item. Try to be as simple and easy to understand as possible.

Delivery address
Please make sure that the address to which we are to deliver the item is correct and complete. If there is anything special about the address, such as a narrow driveway, please let us know. Don't worry - neither your address, nor your name will be passed on to the receiver or any third party.

Delivery fee
Check if your delivery charge is correct. The standard delivery fee is 10 Euros per delivered item. If you are a student or a non-profit organisation, you will receive a discount.

There is no direct contact between donor and receiver. Your personal data will not be passed on to other users by BENU REUSE.

If you have questions about an offer or a wanted ad, you can ask those at any time via the anonymous chat function under the ad. The questions will then be forwarded by us to the donor or receiver. As soon as we have an answer, we will publish it under the respective user name in the chat.

New donations on BENU REUSE are marked with the logo "48h". To ensure that everyone has the same chance of receiving a newly posted item, we collect all requests during the first 48 hours.

The person who has received no or comparatively few items via BENU REUSE so far will get the item. If more than one person should be classified as the same, the person who has contacted us first will receive the item. After the 48 hours have elapsed, we will inform all interested parties whether they will receive the item or ot.

If nobody responds to the donation within the first 48 hours, the item will be handed over to the first interested party.

You can cancel your order within the first 5 days after it has been confirmed by e-mail. You can cancel your order in your account under "My orders".

If you are sure that you no longer wish to cancel your order, you can waive your right of cancellation. This enables us to deliver your item more quickly, as we won't have to wait until the cancellation period has expired before we can collect and deliver it. You can select the option to waive your right of cancellation in your account under "My orders".

As soon as a someone responds to your ad, you will receive an e-mail with a description and photos of the offered item.

You then have 5 days to either accept or reject the item. Please send us your answer informally by e-mail. If we do not hear from you after 5 days, we will release the item, which will then be available on our website again.

BENU REUSE will take care of the transport of the items. As soon as we have found a receiver for your item, we will contact you to arrange the time of collection. Unfortunately, your item cannot be collected any sooner, as BENU REUSE does not offer any temporary storage.

At the agreed time, our delivery team will pick up your item with the BENU REUSE van. In order for this to go smoothly, we ask you to ensure that the item has been prepared for transport in good time. Here, you can find out what you need to do.

We guarantee that your item will be collected "free kerbside". Our BENU REUSE team will make every effort to collect your item directly from your front door - in case it can be transported easily and the distance from your front door to the street is not too far.

This is not the case? Do you need any heavy or bulky items to be collected? Do they have to be carried over long distances, e.g. from the top floor? Then you can also specifically commission BENU REUSE with these tasks. The additional effort costs 60 € per working hour with 2 persons. Please contact us as early as possible so that we can take the additional time into account!

Our delivery team picks up your item with the BENU REUSE van from the donor and delivers it directly to you without any intermediate storage. Of course, we will clarify the time of collection with you in advance.

Some items have to be dismantled before transport. Here, you can find out what this means for you as a receiver.

After your order is final and you have paid the corresponding delivery fee, we will endeavour to deliver your item to you within one week of the expiry of the cancellation period.

The delivery time can be shortened if you waive your right of cancellation and request a faster delivery. In this case, we do not have to wait for the cancellation period of 5 days and can collect and deliver your item correspondingly earlier. You can find more details about the right of cancellation here.

The BENU REUSE team will try to collect and deliver the items as soon as possible. At the same time, we try to bundle and time the individual deliveries in such a way that any unnecessary transport routes can be avoided in order to reduce the emissions and the noise pollution. For these reasons, longer delivery times may therefore occur in individual cases.

Various items, such as shelves or cupboards, must be disassembled prior to transport. In order for the receicver to be able to reassemble the item correctly, it is crucial that it is being carefully disassembled and properly prepared for transport in the first place.

As donating person, you thus have to sort all individual parts and label them precisely. Smaller parts, such as screws and connectors, can be packed in small bags or boxes. You should also provide a description of how to reassemble the item. If the original instructions no longer exist, you can also provide your own explanation with photos. The most important thing is that the instructions are easy to understand.

Don't you want to dismantle your item yourself? Or do you need help when reassembling it?
Then you are most welcome to commission BENU REUSE with this. To do this, you have to select the corresponding option when you post your search ad or place your order online. This work costs 60 € per working hour with 2 persons. Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can take the additional time into account!

All items are conveyed free of charge and without consideration.

The BENU REUSE team picks up the donated items free of charge. As a receiver of an item, you pay BENU REUSE a fee of 10 euros per delivered item. This fee allows us to cover part of our costs for logistics and transport. If you are a student, you only pay 5 euros per delivery. We waive the delivery fee for non-profit organizations.

Do you need any help when assembling and dismantling furniture? Do any heavy or unwieldy objects have to be carried over greater distances, e.g. to an upper floor? Then you can entrust BENU REUSE with these services. We charge € 60 per working hour with 2 people.

Once you have accepted an item, you can no longer return it to either BENU REUSE or the donor.

Should you no longer need the item, we kindly ask you to make sure that it will be reused. Items in good condition can of course also be passed on a second time via BENU REUSE. An object that is no longer functional can perhaps be repaired and then reused again? You will know whom to contact when consulting our REUSE Service.

If no repair or further use is possible, the only option is to dispose of the items at your local recycling centre.

If you have well-founded information or studies (i.e on sustainability criteria), don't hesitate to join us and become an active member of the BENU REUSE community. Send us your information and we will discuss together how we can meaningfully update and/or complete the current exclusion criteria and background information. All those who participate in BENU REUSE have the opportunity to receive a BENU REUSE badge.
